This walk will uncover the beautiful art Déco houses and sculptor’s workshop close to the Park Montsouris.
This area south of Paris was fully urbanized in the last years of the 19th century. Next to the beautiful Montsouris park, Many artists such as the painters Foujita, Derain and Georges Braque, as well as sculptors or architects, chose this neighborhood, cheaper than Montparnasse, to build their houses as well as their workshop asking the most recent architects to come up with the most recent techniques and decors.
Some of the alleyways are still very charming. They house beautiful and discreet villas, including some creations by the most brillant architects of those days: Le Corbusier, Auguste Perret or André Lurçat, to name a few.
A bit further away, an impasse saw many famous artists have their beautiful houses built by non less famous architects. The tour will uncover stories and people behind the closed curtains of what used to be one of the most vibrant street in French culture during most of the twentieth century. The visit of the impressive house-atelier built by Auguste Perret is on the program. It has been kept in its original state and is still full of the works of art of a well known Russian sculptor, who has died in the 1980’s.
