Exploring Maxim’s neighborhood
The restaurant Maxim’s is a real jewel at the center of Paris, on four levels filled with beautiful objects, frescoes and art. It is still a restaurant today, a museum, but also a club and used for private events as well.
Opened at the end of the 19th century, it was first used as a rally point for horse cab drivers.
Totally redecorated in the Art Nouveau style for the Paris World Fair in 1900, it instantly became the young jet-setters’s haunt.
After that, Maxim’s restaurant became one of the most famous in the wold, and especially emblematic of the First World War period.where allied officers would gather and party all night long.
Maxim’s has remained, throughout the years, a must see place to eat in Paris for all the rich and famous all over the planet. It still belongs to Pierre Cardin‘s family, who bought it more than 40 years ago.
The tour will also show a few interesting places around the restaurant in the Madeleine area.
